COSTA BRAVA WALK
TASTE & WALK EMPORDÀ
Centre based walking trail to savour, taste and feel, the food, wine, culture and landscape of Empordà and Costa Brava region.
Day 1. Arrival
Arrival in an ecosostenible hotel in Vilamaniscle, where we stay among the vineyards. Welcome meeting with our local guide, who will give you maps, GPS and will explain you all the details about your holidays. Tasting of a DO Empordà wine glass. Possibility to enjoy a fantastic dinner paring DO Empordà wines.
Day 2. Vilamaniscle – Vilamaniscle (12.5km)
Circular day that leads us through forests and vineyards to Garriguella where we can visit some of its wineries. After the village visit, we are going to return to Vilamaniscle through vineyards, oaks, pines, corks…
This is the best day to visit some wineries of Vilamaniscle and taste its fantastic wine.
Day 3. Cala Montjoi – Roses (13.5km)
The route starts in Cala Montjoi, where the restaurant “El Bulli” was located. Almost all the trail runs next to the sea. Leaving the bay, the trail is surrounded by a rugged and forested landscape. There is a series of small uphills and downhills to get in and out of small secluded coves. At the 3,5 kilometre of Punta Falconera, we can find some defensive structures of the Spanish Civil War. We will continue the route by a series of beaches to Roses port where we will walk around the fishing area. After the Roses visit, we will walk around the great bay where we can find some sand castle builders. Roses -Vilamaniscle transfer at the agreed hour.
Day 4. Figueres – Perelada (10km)
The journey starts next to the Teatre-Museu Dalí, the largest surrealist object of the world. We recommend visiting the museum before starting a pleasant walk through the historic centre of Figueres direction to Vilabertran, where we find la Canònica de Vilabertran.
We will continue from Vilabertran to Peralada, where the route runs peacefully among fields. Once in Perelada, we will walk the well-conserved medieval quartier, where we can find different Romanesque and Gothic religious buildings.
The stage finishes in front of the Peralada castle, where we can visit the library, the convent and the cloister, the glass museum and the wine museum.
Day 5. Sant Pere de Rodes – Llançà (14.6km)
Today’s walk starts at the monumental set of Sant Pere de Rodes. Spectacular fortified monastery whose church points out for its originality and antiquity and because it is a unique Romanesque Catalan architecture piece.
The descent starts with a spectacular sea view following the GR-11. After crossing la Selva De Mar we arrive to el Port de la Selva, beautiful seaside village where we recommend to walk on its streets and visit the harbour.
From here to Llançà port, the route runs frequently near the sea where we can see the typical landscape of la Costa Brava alternating small coves and cliffs.
Day 6. Vilamaniscle – Llançà (12km)
That stage follows the GR-11 trail to Llançà and runs through a beautiful hilly landscape that alternates pine and oak forests. At 4,2 kilometre we find the Sant Silvestre de Valleta chapel, a Romanesque building that dates from the 10th century and located in a beautiful valley.
In Llançà, we walk through the town centre where we can see the church and the Romanesque tower, and we walk down to the sea, crossing the harbour and the beach. Xavi or Montse will drive you to Vilamaniscle, where they have all prepared for a Catalan cooking workshop… are you ready? If you do not like cooking, do not worry about it, you will have the option to taste an incredible pairing dinner to say goodbye to a good week.
