The municipal area of Terrades is located 12 km away from Figueres, in the basin of the Rissec and Murga watercourses, nestled between the mountains in the middle of a small valley. It is a quiet village that lives predominantly on farming and cattle-breeding. It boasts a pleasant climate that favours the cultivation of cherry trees, meaning that Terrades cherries are renowned for their high quality and are sought after in all the markets.
The Santa Cecília parish church stands in the square at the entrance to the village. It was built in 1954 to replace the old, Romanesque-style church that was obliterated by the end of the Spanish Civil War. Sant Sebastià chapel, near Terrades, was probably built in the 17th century and has undergone several renovations.
Palau-surroca castle can be found in the hamlet of Palau-surroca and is privately owned (14th-15th centuries).
Santa Magdalena chapel was restored in the 15th century and is surrounded by huge rocks. There are breathtaking views from above. To reach it, you need to take the path that leads from the Salut sanctuary. The Mare de Déu de la Salut sanctuary is an Ampurdan sanctuary par excellence, dating back to the 17th century (1681), it was built on an existing estate and chapel with donations made by devotees Virgin Mary of Empordà. It stands on a densely-wooded slope in the Santa Magdalena valley.
