Discover the Biure Viewpoint Bunker: A Historical Relic
Delve into history with the Biure Viewpoint Bunker, a military construction carried out by the Francoist organization known as the “Servicio Militar de Construcción” (Military Construction Service). This fortress is part of the extensive network of bunkers and machine gun nests built between 1940 and 1945, which stretches along the lands near the border and the northern coast of Empordà. Named as Line P or Pérez Line, also known as Gutiérrez Line, possibly due to its connection with Colonel Engineer Manuel Duelo Gutiérrez who participated in the planning of this line.
This defensive line was established after the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) by the dictatorial regime as a response to a potential invasion from France. However, in 1985, the decision was made to dismantle these batteries and suppress defense regiments. Nowadays, this construction has been transformed into an elevated viewpoint by the municipality of Biure, offering unique panoramic views of the village and Garriga d’Empordà.
