Figueres food and wine route: from the classics to the avant-garde. Itinerary Seu DO Empordà

The strategic enclave between the sea and the mountains, together with the geographical proximity of the gastronomic revolution of the nouvelle cuisine française, led to the birth of the gastronomic avant-garde of Catalonia in the Empordà region. One of the star local products of the territory is, without a doubt, the wines of the DO Empordà, whose Regulatory Council is based in Figueres, the capital of the Empordà.

We discover and taste, then, this gastronomic legacy of Figueres and Empordà (and the new talents that perpetuate it) paired with the wines of our land, from the hand of the sommelier Laura Masramon. This itinerary begins with a wine and a dish at Can Jeroni, a remarkable family restaurant run by Roser Bronsoms, the fourth generation of women to lead this century-old business. Its cuisine smokes dishes of authentic Catalan tradition made with local products, and they serve fork breakfasts for their demanding clientele.

We will be on the first floor of the local fruit and vegetable market, and among the medlars, onions and sweet sausages, we will taste the second wine of the Empordà. We will finish the route in the restaurant El Pelegrí, of the Hotel Pirineus, which prepares with great delicacy seasonal cuisine with local products and is currently in second place of the best restaurants in Figueres according to Tripadvisor. Its tapa will want an exquisite Empordà wine of a lifetime!
