la Selva de Mar

La Selva de Mar is part of the Empordà region, province of Girona. The municipal term has an area of 7 km2 and 48 m. altitude, which extends from under the mountain of Sant Pere de Roda. The limits of the municipal term are to the north with El Port de la Selva, to the east with Cadaqués, to the south with Roses and Palau Saverdera and to the west with Llançà.

In this place we find a great wealth of landscapes, where the essence of the Mediterranean is combined with the greenery of a very unique landscape, where the Serralada de Verdera rises, protecting this town from the tramontana winds, which has remarkable peaks, Sant Salvador (671m.) and the Puig de Queralbs (621m.) With the Pla d’Estarand the Mas Estela. From these mountains the banks of the Selva are born, from which the coastal path runs perpendicularly along with the road until it reaches the sea, where it connects with the coastal path to Llançà.

The greenness of the abandoned olive groves and the pine and cork oak forests make it a place of natural interest, within the limits of the Cap de Creus Natural Park.

In addition, the municipal term has an important architectural heritage that allows us to know the history of this place. It stands out especially; the five defense towers, the remains of a water mill from the Middle Ages, the hackberry fountain, the mill bridges, the wash house, the church of San Sebastián, the church of Sant Esteve, in addition to the facades of the houses made with unworked stones and old dry stone paths that surround the entire town.

The municipality has bars and restaurants, a bakery, an inn, a Trull Museum, a doctor’s office, a Cultural Recreation Center and the Town Hall. Despite being located in an area where a large volume of tourism is received during the summer, it is one of the few places where you can still enjoy the tranquility and its essence.
