The river is the symbol of the Emporda plain. Along with the Muga, they have shaped the Emporda plain with their supply of sedimentary materials.

Born in the region of La Garrotxa, the Fluvià reaches the area in its final section, with the highest level of all rivers that reach the region. The riverbank forests are well conserved (ashes, poplars, etc…) and its tranquil waters meander throughout the plain.

The river birds and the recent recovery of the otter, that currently inhabits the entire fluvial course, stand out.

The river is also a place for fun, and recreational fishing cannot be left out. It its final section, in Sant Pere Pescador, it is navigable and water sports such as surfing, sailing and kayaking are practiced.
