The rice produced in Alt and Baix Empordà is marketed under the brand name “arròs de Pals”. It is a high quality rice and is marketed solely and exclusively in packaged form.
The most commonly cultivated varieties in the area (>85%) have been Bahia, Tebre and Sènia, either separately or in a mixture of two or three. Other varieties that have also been planted include Ariette, Bomba, Fonsa, Loto, Maso, Montsianell and Puntal. Each one of these varieties has been planted for a specific reason.
