Palol Sabaldòria

The archaeological site of Palol Sabaldòria is, without a doubt, the most interesting place with the most historical value in all of Vilafant.

At this geographical point, various structures and settlements have been built for almost two thousand years by different civilizations:

Used as a quarry and small settlement by the Romans
until the construction of a large farmhouse in the 16th century,
we can find a pre-Romanesque hermitage from the 9th century dedicated to Sant Miquel, with its necropolis,
and the buried remains of a small medieval fortified castle with a large tower.

Even today in this great historical point, chosen by various populations for centuries to settle, we discover new historical footprints such as the recent discovery of a medieval moat that bordered the castle with the remains of the bridge .
