Vineyards and related industry are the inhabitants’ main sources of income. Capmany is one of the most important wine-producing centres in the Empordà region. Some of the population also works in the services sector given the village’s proximity to the N-II road and the AP-7 motorway.
Apart from the village of Capmany itself, which heads the municipality, there are some country estates dotted about and two hamlets: Bosquerós and La Vall.
We should highlight the remarkable remains of the wall and different defence towers, as well as the Romanesque Santa Àgata parish church (12th-13th centuries), with elements from subsequent fortification works.
The Celler Oliveda is a wine and cava producer that was founded in 1948 from a family-run winery. From the very outset, the company has continually grown and increased its business, using more traditional production methods alongside cutting edge techniques. They also have an interesting Taps Museum which holds over 4500 wineskin taps.
