Sant Miquel de Fluvià is a village situated between the plain of the Empordà, an area of rolling terrain with hills, and low-lying mountains.
The village is less than 200 metres away from the left bank of the River Fluvià. The landscape includes well-ordered fields and market gardens next to the river, protected from the wind thanks to the poplars and plane-trees growing near the water.
The fields are divided between cultivation of wheat, pasture and some sectors of apple-trees and other fruit-trees. The inhabitants live mainly off agriculture and raising livestock (with some farms for pigs, cattle and sheep).
According to some experts, it was near Sant Miquel de Fluvià that the Roman road passed which crossed this area from the Pyrenees down to Girona (and which ultimately went from Rome to Cadiz).
