Sant Climent Sescebes is one of the 68 municipalities in the Alt Empordà, and includes most of the middle valley of the River Anyet. Its area covers 24 square kilometres.

The municipal area includes the village of Sant Climent Sescebes, on the left bank of the River Anyet, and also the hamlet of Vilartolí, the hamlet of Ullastre, the farmhouse of Els Solers with the old church of Santa Fe dels Solers, and the farmhouse of Rebulls.

The mountainous part of the municipality is covered by woods, and especially by cork oaks, traditionally exploited for their cork, in addition to scrub and thickets.
Agriculture is unirrigated and the principal crops are the vine and the olive. There is a small area of market garden production near the river.

The raising of livestock and some industrial activities deriving from the woods and from agriculture complement the local economy. There are springs producing water with medicinal qualities.
The presence of the Spanish Army's training centre boosted the development of bars, restaurants and shops.

The present parish church of Sant Climent, of which records date back to 882, was built in the early 18th century. Other attractions are the megalithic itineraries, including some important monuments such as the dolmen of La Gutina and the menhir known as Pedra Murtra. There is also an area of marshland.

In her book “Villages of the Empordà”, the poet Montserrat Vayreda described Sant Climent thus: "Sant Climent Sescebes surrounded by vines, with the wall of Ullastre acting as its pillow (...), you maintain the double harmony of your arches, offering a memory of the ancient doorway before the chapel of Sant Sebastià. (...) Vilartolí is suspended on the other hillside with its light brown houses and marshmallows standing delicately in their red and purple."
