Navata is a village which belongs to the region of the Alt Empordà, of which it constitutes practically the western limit, as it is situated near the boundary with the Garrotxa region. If we continue along the road from Figueres to Olot, there is the municipal area of Cabanelles, which acts as point of transition between the Garrotxa and the Alt Empordà regions. The terrain is not quite so flat here as elsewhere, but there are still wide fields of cereals, olive-groves and pine-trees... The mountain of El Mont is very close, and can be seen from all parts of the municipal area.

The centre of the village is right in the middle of a gently undulating plain, with mountains rearing behind it on its northern side which give it the appearance of a terrace turning towards the sea. Its altitude is 145 metres above sea level.

The municipal area borders to the north with Lladó, Cistella and Vilanant, to the east with Avinyonet de Puigventós, Ordis and Pontós, to the south with Vilademuls and the River Fluvià, and to the west with Cabanelles and Lladó.
